Installing the Android Beta

The Formfactories Mobile Android app is currently in beta testing and is not available in the Google Play Store yet. Until then, approved testers can install the app by downloading the APK file directly.

Before You Start

Only install the APK from the official Formfactories beta link below. You should not need Developer Mode to install the app.

Download the APK

Use the link below on your Android phone:

Download the Formfactories Mobile Android beta APK

After the download finishes, tap the download notification to open the APK.

If the download notification is gone, open your phone's file browser instead. This may be called Files, Files by Google, My Files, or Downloads. Look for the APK in your Downloads folder and tap it.

Allow the Install

Android protects your phone by blocking apps that are installed from outside the Google Play Store. Because the Formfactories Mobile app is still in beta, your phone may ask you to allow this install before continuing.

The permission is given to the app that opens the APK. For example, if you downloaded the APK in Chrome, Android may ask you to allow Chrome to install it. If you opened it from Files or My Files, Android may ask you to allow that file browser instead.

  1. When Android shows the warning, go to Settings.
  2. Turn on Allow from this source or Allow from unkown sources or Allow from external sourceS.
  3. Go back to the install screen. You may need to go back to your file browser and open the file again.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. When the install finishes, tap Open.

Turn This Back Off After Installing

After the app is installed, return to the same setting and turn Allow from this source back off. The Formfactories Mobile app will stay installed.

If You Need to Find the Setting Manually

On most Android phones:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Tap Special app access.
  4. Tap Install apps from external sounces. You can also search to get here.
  5. Choose the app you used to open the APK, such as Chrome, Files, or Files by Google.
  6. Turn on Allow from this source.
  7. Open the APK again and tap Install.

Samsung Phones

On many Samsung phones:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Security and privacy.
  3. Tap More security settings.
  4. Tap Install unknown apps.
  5. Choose the app you used to open the APK, such as Chrome, Samsung Internet, or My Files.
  6. Turn on Allow from this source.
  7. Open the APK again and tap Install.

Some Samsung phones also have Auto Blocker, which can block APK installs. If the install is still blocked after allowing the source, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker and turn it off temporarily. After installing Formfactories Mobile, turn Auto Blocker back on.

Older Android Phones

On Android 7 or older, the setting may be different:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Security or Lock screen and security.
  3. Turn on Unknown sources.
  4. Open the APK again and tap Install.
  5. After installing, return to the same setting and turn Unknown sources back off.

App Permissions

When you open Formfactories Mobile for the first time, Android may ask for permissions such as camera access or notifications.

Allow camera access if you plan to scan QR codes or use camera-based features. Notification permission is optional, but turning it on can help you receive important app updates and alerts.

Updating the Beta App

When a new beta version is available, download the new APK from the latest Formfactories beta link and install it the same way.

If Android says the app cannot be updated, uninstall the old beta first:

Long press on the app and drag to uninstall.

If that is not available you can do the following;
1. Open **Settings**.
2. Go to **Apps**.
3. Tap **Formfactories Mobile**.
4. Tap **Uninstall**.
5. Download and install the latest APK again.
