Workspaces
Workspaces are used to organize and collaborate on things, similar to a project, but without any structure. It functions like a digital whiteboard or document editor.
Workspaces are a standalone feature, but every projectA collection of parts, quantities, materials, job files, client information, and pricing (if applicable). also has a workspaces included within it. The main workspace dashboard only shows standalone workspaces.
Task Terminology
The workspace feature used to be called tasksAn older term used in the platform to describe what is now called a workspace. Tasks were originally used to manage to-do items, and while the feature has since expanded, some parts of the UI or documentation may still refer to them as tasks., as that was the primary purpose before it was expanded. If you see a reference to a task anywhere in the software, it refers to a workspace.
Action Buttons (Top Row)
Includes:
- Category — Create or assign a catagory. The dashboard will organize them accordingly.
- Set Due Date — Sets a due date, as the title implies.
- Share — Invite teammates to collaborate
- Star — Mark as important or favorite
Basic Features
While there are no strict rules, a typical workspace is used to add structure to your thoughts using headers and text blocks. By default, you’ll see a header labeled Title and a text field labeled Description.

Element Features

Comment
Start a comment thread directly within the to-do item. This is great for discussions, updates, and clarification.
Tag Someone
Tag someone from your team, and they will receive notifications whenever comments are made.
Tagging Strategy
When tagging someone, it’s helpful to understand the hierarchy: if you tag a user on a heading, they will receive notifications for all elements within that heading.

Set Priority
Flag the item with a priority, such as Urgent.
Link to Project
Link to a projectA collection of parts, quantities, materials, job files, client information, and pricing (if applicable).. Clicking the link will take you straight to that project.
Link to Part
Link to a modelA digital representation of the physical object that will be created (STL, STP, etc.). within any project. Clicking the link will take you straight to that model.
Link to Machine
Link the to a machineA device used to produce models, such as a 3D printer. Machines are configured in the Machines and Capabilities section under Settings., useful for maintenance tasks or issues tied to specific equipment.
Attach File
Attach any file you would like.
Add External Link
Link out to any resource, such as a supplier page (e.g., McMaster-Carr or Amazon), documentation, etc.
Design Mode
If you click the gear icon in the top right, you'll see an option to Enable Design Mode, which will open up a formatting toolbar.
Formatting Toolbar
Offers all of the normal things you'd expect:
- Text styling: Bold, Italic, Underline
- Lists: Bulleted and Numbered
- Alignment: Left, Center, Right
- Links: Includes the option to link to a different workspace.
- Controls: Undo, Redo, Version History
Advanced Features and Publishing
Workspaces can get pretty advanced. At one point, the entire Incept 3D website was built and maintained through the workspaces feature. More information will be added later. Meanwhile, contact support if you have questions about more advanced applications.
